There are various reasons why a filler may need to be dissolved or why its dissolution may be requested. These include instances of overfilling, where the filler has migrated or spread to unintended areas, resulting in lumps or unevenness. Asymmetrical results or allergic reactions, such as swelling, may also prompt the need for dissolution. Additionally, late reactions, characterized by swelling or lumps appearing at the filler site, particularly common in tear trough areas, can occur even months after injection. In rare cases, infection may also necessitate filler dissolution.
Just like there are risks or adverse events associated with injecting dermal filler, hyaluronidase itself is not risk free as it can cause temporary discomfort of injection, redness, swelling, bruising and very rarely allergy. Often if it is a patients first exposure to hyaluronidase, we will do a patch test on the arm to ensure the patient is not allergic to the product before proceeding with dissolving filler in facial tissues.
Indeed! After having your Dermal Filler dissolved, we typically advise waiting 2 weeks before having more filler injected. Many of our clients have visited for corrective treatment looking to remove and replace filler after having treatment elsewhere.
Prior to your filler dissolving treatment, it's advisable to avoid alcohol consumption for at least 24 hours. Inform your provider about any medications or supplements you're currently taking, and refrain from blood-thinning medications like aspirin for a week before your appointment.
Following your filler dissolving treatment, steer clear of strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours and minimize sun exposure and tanning beds. Adhere to your provider's recommendations regarding post-treatment care products, and opt for gentle skincare routines while avoiding harsh treatments for several days.
